A 64-YEAR-OLD man has been charged at the Sessions Court here on Friday with physically sexually assaulting his three-year-old stepson last year.

The accused pleaded not guilty before Judge Datin Surita Budin after the charge was read to him.

According to the charge, the man committed the acts of sexual assault against the young boy between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. at a house in Labu, Nilai, over the period from October to November 2025.

The conduct constitutes an offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, punishable by a maximum of 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni requested bail of RM20,000 with three additional conditions, confirming that the accused is the step-grandfather of the victim.

The defence lawyer, Mohd Hanif Hassan, appealed for a minimal bail, noting that his client suffers from spinal ailments, asthma, chronic nerve issues, and mild paralysis.

He added that the accused is unemployed, dependent on his children for support, and responsible for caring for his ailing wife, a child, and an elderly 80-year-old mother.

The court subsequently set bail at RM16,000 with one surety, along with additional conditions requiring the accused not to interfere with witnesses and to report monthly to the nearest police station.

The case is scheduled for mention again on 30 March. - February 27, 2026
