PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed Malaysia’s solidarity with those affected by the escalating conflict in West Asia, as tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States intensify following a series of retaliatory strikes.

In a Facebook post today, Anwar said Malaysia was praying for all communities impacted by the violence and hoped for a swift restoration of stability in the region.

“Malaysia prays for the well-being of Muslims and all communities affected, and hopes that peace, justice and stability can soon be restored in West Asia,” he said.

The situation in the region remains highly volatile after Iran launched sustained attacks on United States military bases in several Arab countries into the early hours of this morning.

The strikes were described as retaliation for joint U.S.-Israeli attacks carried out yesterday on several areas in Iran, including Tehran, Isfahan and Qom, which reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, after his residence was targeted.

The Israeli military subsequently announced a further series of airstrikes aimed at Iran’s ballistic missile systems and air defence infrastructure, signalling an expansion of its military campaign against the Islamic Republic.

Tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States are now at an exceptionally high level, heightening fears of a broader escalation across West Asia in the coming days. - March 1, 2026
