THE report by the Special Investigation Committee into the shareholding issue involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki is expected to be completed imminently, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil confirmed.
Speaking at his weekly press conference following today’s cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Fahmi said the matter was not discussed at the session.
"This issue was not discussed at the cabinet meeting. However, as the prime minister mentioned during yesterday’s parliamentary question-and-answer session, the report from the Attorney-General is expected to be completed within a day or two," he said.
Yesterday, the Prime Minister stated that the committee’s report on Azam’s shareholdings is anticipated to be finalised within the week.
He added that he would personally review the report before deciding on any further measures, including whether the investigation should be extended.
Anwar also described it as premature to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the allegations.
In a separate matter, Fahmi highlighted the government’s priority in ensuring the safety of Malaysians in the Middle East amid escalating regional tensions.
He noted that Wisma Putra had provided a comprehensive briefing on the situation, particularly for Malaysians residing in the Gulf.
"The government’s priority at this time is to ensure that the safety of Malaysians is guaranteed. This includes those who may be stranded due to the unavailability of return flights and those residing in countries affected by the current situation in Iran," he said.
Fahmi explained that the instability followed recent attacks by the Zionist regime, raising concerns over regional security and flight logistics.
He confirmed that Wisma Putra would issue a follow-up statement outlining specific measures and potential evacuation plans.
When asked whether the Prime Minister had engaged with foreign leaders or organisations, including former United States president Donald Trump, Fahmi said, "At this point in time, there is no information on that. It was not brought up or informed during the cabinet meeting today."
He added that the government is closely monitoring developments, as several flight routes have been disrupted, leaving some travellers unable to return home.
Malaysians in the affected areas are advised to remain in contact with the nearest Malaysian embassy or consulate and to follow updates from Wisma Putra.
On the domestic front, Fahmi addressed the ongoing issue between Telekom Malaysia Bhd and Digital Nasional Bhd, clarifying that it is a contractual commercial dispute that will not hinder the government’s 5G network rollout plans.
"As I understand it, this is a contractual commercial dispute between two parties," he said, noting that both companies are licence holders under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
Fahmi confirmed that Malaysia has already achieved 80 per cent 5G coverage and that the dispute would not derail efforts to reach the government’s target of 95 per cent network coverage.
"We do not see this issue between the two parties affecting efforts to achieve 95 per cent 5G network coverage in the future," he said, while expressing hope that both parties would resolve the matter amicably.
Yesterday, DNB rejected TM’s notice to terminate its 5G Wholesale Network Access Agreement, reaffirming that the long-term contract remains valid and enforceable.
