THE government will continue to strive to maintain the price of RON95 at RM1.99 per litre though the price of Brent crude oil has reportedly increased to over US$100 per barrel, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to him, the increase in global oil prices has put pressure on many countries, but Malaysia is still able to maintain fuel prices at a lower rate than other countries.
“Although we know that compared to other countries, our situation is still under control. Today's oil prices, the price of Brent per barrel has increased by US$100,” he said when speaking at the Prime Minister's Meeting with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living today.
Anwar added that the government will take various efforts to ensure that the increase in world oil prices does not burden the people.
“We are still holding on to RM1.99 for RON95, and we will make the maximum effort possible so as not to burden the people,” he said.
In today's trading, the US oil benchmark, West Texas Intermediate (WTI), jumped 20 per cent to US$109.17 a barrel, a level not seen since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. – March 9, 2026
