AS the Aidilfitri celebrations approach, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced additional school holidays for students and teachers, allowing families and educators to plan festive activities and preparations in advance.

According to the Academic Calendar for the 2026 session, the celebrations are expected to fall on 21 March, and the ministry has scheduled extra leave days, organised under two groups: Group A and Group B.

For Group A, which includes the states of Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, the holiday will begin on 19 March (Thursday).

Group B, encompassing Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor as well as the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, will receive a two-day additional break on 19 March (Thursday) and 20 March (Friday).

The timing of the Aidilfitri holidays coincides with the first-term school break, allowing students a longer period of rest and celebration.

For Group A, the school term break will last nine days, running from 20 March to 28 March, while Group B will observe the holiday from 21 March to 29 March.

These announcements are eagerly anticipated each year, providing clarity for parents, teachers and pupils to organise activities and make arrangements well ahead of the festive season. - March 10, 2026
