THE National Unity Minister has urged authorities to take uncompromising action against individuals responsible for recent incidents involving religious provocation, violence and acts that could inflame communal tensions in the country’s multi-ethnic and multi-faith society.
Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the Ministry of National Unity is treating several recent incidents seriously, warning that such acts could undermine social harmony and national stability if left unchecked.
“Any form of violence, religious provocation, hatred or extreme actions that touch on racial and religious sensitivities cannot be accepted at all in a multi-racial and multi-religious country like Malaysia,” he said in a statement.
Aaron highlighted three incidents that have recently drawn public concern, including the burning of a vehicle belonging to community activist known as Cikgu Chandra by unknown individuals.
Another case involved a viral video showing a man stepping on and damaging the Trisul, a sacred symbol in Hinduism, which sparked unease among members of the Hindu community.
A separate incident involved an attack on independent preacher Zamri Vinoth, raising concerns about personal safety and public order.
“In this regard, I urge the Royal Malaysia Police to conduct a thorough investigation and take firm action against any parties involved, in accordance with existing legal provisions,” he said.
Aaron stressed that Malaysia was built upon the principles of unity, mutual respect and understanding among different religions and cultures, values that must continue to be safeguarded by all segments of society.
“I urge all Malaysians not to react emotionally, not to spread speculation and to always exercise prudence when responding to sensitive issues, particularly on social media. Any differences in opinion should be addressed through the proper channels and in accordance with the law,” he said. - March 10, 2026
