Corporate Mafia claims: Govt holds off RCI decision pending probe findings
The Government will not immediately set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into alleged corporate mafia activities - July 17, 2026

THE Government will wait for the findings of ongoing investigations before deciding whether to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into allegations of corporate mafia activities, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said authorities were currently conducting investigations to establish the complete facts and verify the allegations.

She said the process must be allowed to proceed independently, transparently and thoroughly in accordance with the law.

“The Government remains open to considering the establishment of an RCI or any other appropriate mechanism if it is deemed necessary in the public interest,” she said in a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Azalina was responding to a question from Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, who sought updates on investigations into alleged corporate mafia activities and whether an RCI would be formed to examine the matter.

She said any decision to establish an RCI would be based on the outcome of investigations, including the facts, findings and latest developments uncovered by the relevant authorities.

“The establishment of an RCI is subject to the provisions under the Commissions of Enquiry Act 1950 (Act 119), including the requirement for Cabinet approval before the matter is submitted for the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” she said.

The Government, she added, would continue to evaluate the need for any further mechanism to ensure accountability and protect the public interest. - July 17, 2026
