Religious, racial issues: Communication needs to be clear, avoid misunderstandings, says PAS
Takiyuddin stressed that at times like these, Malaysia really needs voices that calm the situation, not those that inflame tensions.

PAS has urged the authorities to handle current tensions or disputes over religious and racial issues promptly, transparently and fairly.

Its Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, said accurate explanations, fair and impartial law enforcement and clear crisis communication from the authorities were essential to avoid misunderstandings, speculation and prejudice or unnecessary escalation of tensions.

PAS also, he said, urged all parties, including leaders, organisations and media platforms to act more maturely and responsibly when commenting or reporting on such issues.

He stressed that at times like these, Malaysia really needs voices that calm the situation, not those that inflame tensions.

“PAS emphasises that issues related to religion and racial identity must be handled with wisdom, calmness and deep sensitivity towards the fundamental nature of our plural and diverse society,” he said in a statement today.

He added that sensitivities related to religion, history and places of worship are very close to all communities and groups.

Therefore, the issue must be handled prudently and maturely, without provocation or extreme attitudes from any party.

“Attempts to frame it in ways that foster suspicion, hatred and hostility between communities or groups are very irresponsible acts and must be rejected by all parties.

“The harmony and unity of our people who have diverse backgrounds of belief and culture, in addition to continuing to uphold the rights and dignity of all as guaranteed by the laws of the country’s Constitution,” he said. – March 11, 2026
