A 52-YEAR-OLD man died after jumping from the third floor of a residential unit in Jalan Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, while attempting to flee a police raid linked to a motorcycle theft investigation.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the incident occurred at about 9.07pm when a police team carried out a raid at the premises as part of an operation targeting motorcycle theft.

According to him, two suspects attempted to escape by leaping from the upper floor of the building.

“Both suspects attempted to escape by jumping from the third floor of the building. A 52-year-old local man was confirmed dead at the scene, while the other survived,” he said in a statement today.

Police later classified the case as a sudden death report.

During the operation, authorities also detained 12 individuals at the residence.

“Police arrested 12 individuals comprising four men, five women and three children aged between three and 42 years, including two Indonesian nationals. Police also seized two stolen motorcycles and several types of drugs at the residence.

“Further investigations are ongoing,” he said.

Fadil also urged the public not to speculate about the incident in order to avoid confusion and unnecessary public concern. - March 12, 2026
