CONTROVERSIAL independent preacher Muhammad Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu has been released on bail after pleading not guilty to a charge of making statements likely to cause public alarm, as he urged Malaysians to prioritise reconciliation and social harmony.
The Magistrates’ Court in Kuala Lumpur granted bail of RM4,500 with one surety, which was posted by fellow preacher Firdaus Wong. The court also fixed 29 April for the next mention of the case.
Zamri, 42, who is also known for coordinating the Gerakan Anti Rumah Anutan Haram (GARAH), is accused of publishing statements on his Facebook account last month that could incite public unrest.
The charge is framed under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Speaking to reporters after the proceedings, Zamri called for calm and unity, emphasising the importance of resolving differences peacefully.
"Whatever the issue, if we can move towards reconciliation, that is far better for the good of Malaysia," he said.
He also took the opportunity to extend festive greetings to the public.
"My final message is Selamat Hari Raya, forgive me for any wrongdoings. God willing, we will meet again, and thank you," he added.
Zamri’s release comes amid broader public attention on cases involving alleged statements affecting public order, with his remarks reflecting a conciliatory tone as legal proceedings continue. - March 17, 2026
