THE Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) has denied issuing an invitation letter for a Hari Raya Aidilfitri event that allegedly sought donations from the public, describing the document as fraudulent.

Kuala Lumpur TEID chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the department detected the circulation of the fake letter via WhatsApp at 5.50pm yesterday.

He said the letter bore a forged official letterhead purporting to originate from the Traffic and Transport Branch of the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters, and was signed under the name "Supt Jamil bin Abdul".

"A check found that no such person exists in the officer records of the Kuala Lumpur police traffic branch or the police.

"TEID stresses that no official letter was issued to request donations from any party", he said.

Zamzuri said the circulation of the document appeared to be a deliberate attempt to deceive the public and could undermine the credibility and reputation of the police force.

A police report has been lodged to support further investigations into the matter.

"The public is advised to remain vigilant and not to be misled by dubious donation requests. Verification can be made directly with Kuala Lumpur TEID at 03-2071 9999, the hotline at 03-2026 0267/0269, or any nearby police station, he said. - March 20, 2026
