A 25-YEAR-OLD man was killed after the car he was driving collided with a vehicle belonging to the Road Transport Department in a crash in Kampung Banggol Jering, Ayer Lanas.

The victim, Mursyid Azmi, was the son of a senior editor at Astro Awani.

The incident occurred at about 4.30pm when the Perodua Myvi he was driving collided with a Toyota Fortuner owned by the Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan.

Kemahang Fire and Rescue Station chief Disagar Mani Mustafa said emergency services received a distress call at 4.43pm, with the driver reported to be seriously injured and trapped inside the vehicle.

“Firefighters used special equipment to extricate the victim before he was handed over to the Ministry of Health to be transported to Hospital Jeli.

“We were later informed that the victim died,” he said when contacted.

He added that the victim had been travelling from Ipoh, Perak to Kelantan with two passengers at the time of the crash.

The occupants of the Toyota Fortuner were not injured in the incident. - March 21, 2026
