A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy was killed after he was struck by a car while crossing a road at Jalan Kota Kuala Muda late last night.

In the incident at about 9.23pm, the victim, identified as Muhammad Ammar Zamri, sustained injuries and was taken to the Kota Kuala Muda Health Clinic, where he was later pronounced dead.

Kuala Muda District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said initial investigations found that the incident occurred when a Perodua Myvi was travelling from Kota Kuala Muda towards Pulau Sayak.

“The car then struck the child, who was said to have suddenly crossed the road from the left into the path of the vehicle.

“The driver, a local man, was unable to avoid the collision as the distance was too close,” he said.

He added that the victim, a Year One pupil at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kota Kuala Muda, was taken to the health clinic but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

“The body of the Year One pupil from Sekolah Kebangsaan Kota Kuala Muda was sent to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital here for a post-mortem, and the case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said. - March 25, 2026
