FINANCIAL data and media company Bloomberg (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has moved to have a libel suit dismissed, insisting it played no role in publishing an article that purportedly linked Bestinet Sdn Bhd and its founder, Datuk Seri Aminul Islam Abdul Nor, to a migrant worker recruitment syndicate.
In filings submitted to the High Court in Kuala Lumpur, Bloomberg (Malaysia), through lawyer Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, described the plaintiffs’ statement of claim dated February 12 as “scandalous, frivolous, and vexatious” and an abuse of the court process.
The company stressed that it neither published, uploaded, nor circulated the disputed article in January, and clarified that it does not control or operate the website where the material appeared.
“The Bloomberg website clearly states it is run by Bloomberg LP in New York, not by its Malaysian arm,” the filing added, highlighting the distinction between the global entity and its local operations.
The lawsuit names ten defendants, including Bloomberg LP, Bloomberg (Malaysia), The Edge Communications Sdn Bhd, Mnow Media Sdn Bhd, Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd, Norhafizan Muhamad, Nur Azwan Nusi of Harapan Media Enterprise, lawyer Latheefa Koya, Pandan MP Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli, and activist Iswardy Morni.
During case management proceedings, High Court judge Roslan Mat Nor scheduled the hearing for Bloomberg (Malaysia)’s application to dismiss the suit on June 26.
The judge also directed the plaintiffs’ lawyer, N. Ravindran, representing Bestinet and Datuk Seri Aminul Islam, to provide an update on the status of service of the writ of summons to Bloomberg LP. - April 2, 2026
