TWO top officials of the Department of Environment (DOE) are set to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court in connection with the investigation into the electronic waste (e-waste) management case.

The Deputy Director-General of the DOE arrived at the court premises at 8.30 am, accompanied by officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

It is understood that the DOE Director-General arrived at the court earlier.

The two will be brought to two separate courtrooms for the charges to be read out before Judge Suzana Hussin and Judge Azura Alwi.

According to sources, the Director-General will be charged under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009 for accepting a bribe of RM100,000, while the Deputy Director-General is expected to face six charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code for accepting a bribe of RM21,000.

On January 29, the MACC arrested the DOE Director General and Deputy Director General at approximately 6:30 pm at its headquarters here after they appeared to give statements to assist in investigations into the e-waste issue.

The investigation is being conducted to look into allegations of abuse of power and corruption in the management of electronic waste, which is believed to have occurred over the past few years.

The arrest of the two top DOE officials was made in accordance with the MACC Act 2009. – April 3, 2026
