POLICE have received six reports linked to the Melaka state election, four of which involved alleged vandalism or the disappearance of campaign materials, including about 150 Pakatan Harapan (PH) flags in Rumbia.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the reports involved campaign flags allegedly broken, removed, torn, burned or otherwise damaged in several constituencies.

The incidents included the disappearance or damage of 22 campaign flags in Ayer Keroh, as well as the alleged destruction of about 150 PH flags in Rumbia.

"Police also received reports alleging that PH flags had been removed in Ayer Limau and that Bersama party campaign materials in Paya Rumput had been damaged," he said in a statement last night.

The remaining two reports concerned a statement by Seremban MP Anthony Loke Siew Fook on the disclosure of minutes relating to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's pardon, and the alleged distribution of food baskets and cash in Jasin.

Dzulkhairi said the case involving Loke was being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The Jasin report concerned the alleged distribution of food baskets and about RM50 in cash in conjunction with Deepavali at the JAPERUN Rim Complex.

The incident was also linked to the presence of a representative of a Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate and is being investigated under Section 10 of the Election Offences Act 1954.

He said the Melaka Criminal Investigation Department was investigating all the reports to identify those involved.

"No further information can be provided at this stage as the cases are still under investigation.

"Members of the public are advised to remain calm, act within the law and refrain from speculating about the reported incidents," he said, adding that updates would be provided as investigations progressed.

Earlier, media reports quoted Bersama candidate for Paya Rumput Abdul Rashid Abu Bakar as alleging that his party's campaign materials had been vandalised, including being set on fire.

He said party election workers discovered the damage between 4am and 7am on Monday.
