TWO food processing factories producing coffee and biscuits have had their Halal Certification revoked with immediate effect after inspectors uncovered serious violations involving contaminated equipment.
State Executive Councillor for Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Datuk Rahmad Mariman said the action, taken by the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM), followed significant breaches of halal standards by both companies, which are based in the state.
Investigations revealed that the manufacturers had used brushes made from animal hair in their production processes, raising immediate compliance concerns.
"More concerning, the analysis by the Malaysian Halal Analysis Centre confirmed that the brush had the physical characteristics of pig hair. This is clearly contrary to the principles of halal certification," he said firmly.
Rahmad, who is also the Ayer Molek state assemblyman, said the violation was classified as a serious non-compliance under the Malaysia Halal Certification Procedure Manual 2020, as it involved the use and handling of equipment contaminated with non-halal elements.
"This is not a minor issue; it involves the integrity of halal certification and consumer trust. That is why the certificate was immediately revoked without compromise," he added.
He stated that both companies have been ordered to stop using the halal logo, recall all products currently on the market, and carry out a cleansing process in accordance with Islamic law before any reapplication for certification will be considered.
Authorities will continue to carry out close monitoring to ensure that halal products remain clean, safe, and free from prohibited or questionable elements throughout the production chain.
Rahmad also reminded industry players to be more vigilant and attentive in complying with halal requirements, particularly in the preparation and processing of food and beverages.
"Meanwhile, consumers are urged to check the status of products through the Malaysian Halal Portal to avoid any doubt," he added. - April 3, 2026
