FOUR police officers have been remanded for five days starting today to assist investigations into an alleged bribery case involving RM12,000 last year.

The remand order, valid until April 11, was issued by Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The suspects, aged between 22 and 42, include two lance corporals, one corporal, and a sergeant. They were detained by the SPRM at their respective offices yesterday afternoon.

Reports indicate that the four officers, who were serving at the Tanah Merah District Police Headquarters, allegedly received the cash in exchange for refraining from taking action against a local man found in possession of prohibited items in his vehicle.

The man had been arrested at the end of last year.

All four suspects arrived at the courthouse wearing the SPRM’s orange detention uniforms at 8:40am, transported in a police van, ahead of their remand hearing.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about corruption within law enforcement ranks and underscores the commission’s commitment to investigate allegations of misconduct, even within the police force itself. - April 7, 2026
