THE Road Transport Department (JPJ) has opened an investigation into a viral video that shows an express bus driver allegedly operating the vehicle with a woman sitting on his lap.

In the video clip, believed to have been recorded by a bus passenger, the woman involved is seen operating the steering wheel while sitting on the driver's lap as the bus is in motion.

Based on a post on Facebook, the express bus is believed to be en route from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) to Kulai, Johor, when the incident was recorded.

Meanwhile, RTD Senior Director of Enforcement, Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, said immediate action had been taken after the video went viral.

“An investigation was immediately carried out following the viral video. The driver in question and the bus company involved have been identified.

"The driver has been called to record his statement this morning," he said.

He said that once the investigation is complete, the case will be referred to the RTD Director-General for further instructions.

"The public with information about the incident is asked to contact the nearest RTD office to assist in the investigation.

"All road users, especially commercial vehicle operators, are reminded to obey the laws at all times.

"This is important to ensure the safety of all road users and avoid incidents that can endanger lives," he said. – April 13, 2026
