KEY government ministries are stepping up efforts to secure its energy supply and accelerate diversification into renewable sources, as senior ministers conducted a strategic visit to a leading fuel distribution and biodiesel blending facility in the Klang Valley.
Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad and Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir visited PS Pipeline Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Petronas Dagangan Berhad and Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd, at the Klang Valley Distribution Terminal today.
The visit reflects the government’s continued commitment to ensuring fuel supply security while strengthening the national energy diversification agenda amid growing global market uncertainty.
Officials said the working visit was aimed at assessing operations at the strategic facility and reinforcing inter-ministerial cooperation, particularly in advancing renewable energy initiatives in response to the global energy crisis linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
Against an increasingly complex geopolitical backdrop, the government stressed that energy policy must go beyond immediate supply concerns and be addressed within a broader national framework encompassing energy security, commodity sector strength, logistics efficiency, supply chain resilience and overall economic stability.
The Klang Valley Distribution Terminal plays a central role in Malaysia’s petroleum storage and distribution network, particularly for the Klang Valley, while also serving as a leading hub for biodiesel blending, including B7 and B10 programmes.
The facility receives continuous supply from refineries in Melaka and Port Dickson, ensuring a stable and efficient fuel distribution system. Its role has become increasingly critical as Malaysia seeks to mitigate potential disruptions to global fossil fuel supply chains and strengthen domestic alternative energy sources.
During a briefing, Noraini highlighted the importance of PS Pipeline Sdn Bhd in supporting the National Biodiesel Programme, noting that effective management of domestic biofuel resources is essential to reducing reliance on volatile external markets.
She noted that the company is a licensed operator under the ministry, responsible for biodiesel blending and storage activities.
Meanwhile, Akmal emphasised that operations at the terminal form a crucial part of the national energy supply chain, underpinning both supply security and economic stability.
He said Malaysia must accelerate efforts to diversify its energy mix to avoid overdependence on oil and gas, particularly in light of global energy uncertainties.
The amplification of biodiesel usage, he added, should be viewed as a core component of the country’s energy transition agenda, in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap and broader development priorities under the upcoming Malaysia Plan.
The visit was also attended by senior ministry officials, including the secretaries-general of the Plantation and Commodities Ministry and the Economy Ministry, alongside other senior officers, reflecting a coordinated approach to ensuring the country’s energy systems remain robust and well-regulated. - April 13, 2026
