LEADERS and members of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) at all levels have been reminded not to become complacent or lose sight of the party’s reformist roots simply because it is now in government.

PKR Information Chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that although the party has led the Selangor administration since 2008, every leader—from branch committee members to the highest ranks—must maintain unity, discipline and ideological clarity.

He stressed that public scrutiny of political leaders has intensified, requiring consistent accountability and responsiveness.

“Every move and behaviour of party leaders is now being watched, assessed and observed by the people.

“Therefore, it is important for every member to function as a responsive team and not neglect their responsibility to society.

“Do not ever become complacent or be lulled by being in a position of power. We must continue to sharpen our ideals and not allow the seeds of corruption to enter and destroy the spirit of reform,” he said when officiating the Gombak PKR Annual General Meeting 2026 today.

Fahmi, who is also Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai, described the Gombak PKR branch as strong and cohesive, expressing hope that it would continue to serve as a “beacon” for strengthening Selangor’s administration and reinforcing the party’s resilience against internal and external threats.

“I say this sincerely—if we do not use platforms like this to offer reminders, I would consider it a dereliction of duty. We all represent leaders, not only Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (Selangor Menteri Besar), but also the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.

In his speech, Fahmi also highlighted the effectiveness of the MADANI government’s governance in managing global economic pressures.

Commenting on speculation over a possible Johor state election, he said he would head to the south immediately to begin preparations and organise party machinery. - April 19, 2026
