A MISUNDERSTANDING following a reprimand over smoking is believed to have triggered a brawl at a restaurant in Bandar Rimbayu, Telok Panglima Garang, last week, police said.

Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said a report on the incident was lodged by a local man at about 2am on Wednesday.

“Based on investigations, police found that there was a misunderstanding between two parties after one of them was reprimanded for smoking in the area.

“The incident then escalated into a fight, with both sides assaulting each other,” he said in a statement today.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 160 of the Penal Code for affray, which carries a penalty of up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both, upon conviction.

Mohd Akmalrizal said efforts are underway to trace those involved and urged members of the public with information to come forward.

“Members of the public with information related to the incident are advised to contact the nearest police station or the Kuala Langat District Police Headquarters Operations Room at 03-3187 2222 to assist investigations,” he said.

The incident went viral after a 47-second video circulated online showing two men engaged in a physical altercation inside the restaurant, before several bystanders intervened to separate them. - April 19, 2026
