A SCHOOL hostel warden has claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Kota Bharu to two charges of physically sexually assaulting an 11-year-old pupil at a primary school in Dabong, Kuala Krai, last year.

Mohd Faiz Rohizat, 34, pleaded not guilty after both charges were read out before Judge Zulkifli Abllah yesterday.

He was accused of committing the offences against the Year Five pupil in a hostel warden's room at about 1pm in April 2025 and 4pm in September 2025.

The first charge was brought under Section 14(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, while the second was under Section 14(d) of the same Act.

Both provisions carry a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Syazalia Che Suhaimin did not offer bail, citing the seriousness of the offences.

However, defence counsel Siti Fathma Nuraimi Mohamad sought bail, arguing that her client was a civil servant with a wife, a three-year-old child and elderly parents to support.

She also submitted that he had a permanent address in Bachok and was unlikely to abscond.

The court subsequently granted bail of RM10,000 with one surety, subject to additional conditions.

These include providing a permanent residential address, refraining from contacting or interfering with the victim and prosecution witnesses, reporting to the nearest police station once every two months and surrendering his passport to the court.

The court fixed Dec 23 for mention of the case. - November 5, 2026
