THE appointment of former High Court judge Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman as the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner is a fitting choice to lead the agency.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Abdul Halim’s judicial background, coupled with his non-involvement in major business interests or political parties, makes him well-placed to helm the commission and further strengthen its role.

“I believe he is well-suited to lead MACC and enhance its capabilities. I discussed with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, yesterday to consider appointing him to a two-year term,” he said as reported by Bernama.

He was speaking to reporters after attending the recognition ceremony of the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) as an International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Digital Transformation Centre at NADI Kubang Semang today.

Anwar also expressed appreciation to Tan Sri Azam Baki, whose term ends on May 12, for his contributions and service.

Earlier, Sultan Ibrahim had consented to Abdul Halim’s appointment as the new MACC Chief Commissioner, effective May 13.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the appointment is in line with Subsection 5(1) of the MACC Act 2009 (Act 694). – April 25, 2026
