A FORMER general manager of the Federal Land Development Authority has been remanded for five days following an anti-graft crackdown on questionable land transactions and project appointments at the statutory body.

Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah granted the remand order at the Putrajaya magistrate’s court after an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

The suspect, a man in his late 60s, arrived at the complex in an MACC vehicle wearing a green collared shirt.

He was detained at around 4 pm yesterday after turning up at the agency's headquarters to have his statement recorded.

Investigators are probing suspected abuse of power surrounding the appointment of a developer for a project in the capital, alongside the sale of Felda-owned land to a linked private firm.

The transactions were allegedly pushed through without the knowledge or approval of the board of directors and the subsidiary involved.

The case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009 for graft and bribery.

If convicted, Section 24 carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of at least five times the value of the gratification, or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

The arrest lands on the heels of remarks by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who warned yesterday that issues tied to a Felda subsidiary will be exposed in the coming weeks to identify and root out institutional weaknesses. - September 7, 2026
