THE Government has revised upward the retail prices of RON97 and unsubsidised RON95 petrol, as continued instability in West Asia and tight global supply conditions push fuel costs above pre-conflict levels.

The Ministry of Finance (MOF), in a release today,  said the latest adjustments, effective from April 30 to May 6, were determined under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), which tracks the average global oil prices from the preceding week.

RON97 will rise by five sen to RM4.90 per litre from RM4.85, while unsubsidised RON95 increases by 10 sen to RM3.97 per litre from RM3.87. Diesel prices in Peninsular Malaysia remain unchanged at RM5.12 per litre.

The government said prolonged geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to inject uncertainty into global petroleum markets, with high risks of escalation and an unpredictable outlook affecting price stability.

It noted that global oil and petroleum product supply remains constrained, partly due to damage to production and refining infrastructure in the region, which will require time to restore.

“The crisis in West Asia that is still ongoing continues to trigger uncertainty in the global petroleum market,” the statement said.

With prices remaining elevated compared to pre-conflict levels, the government urged consumers to exercise prudence in fuel consumption to help maintain national supply stability.

“Therefore, the MADANI Government urges the public to continue using fuel prudently in order to help strengthen the stability of the nation’s supply.”

Despite the price adjustments, the government said targeted fuel subsidies remain in place to shield households and key sectors from market fluctuations.

Subsidised RON95 under the BUDI95 programme, as well as diesel subsidies in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, remain capped at RM1.99 per litre.

Prices under the Subsidised Petrol Control System and Subsidised Diesel Control System stand at RM2.15 and RM2.05 per litre respectively.

The government said it would continue to adopt a measured approach to balance consumer protection with ensuring sufficient and secure national fuel supply. - April 29, 2026
