A MALAYSIAN driver has described being stranded for more than 10 hours after his vehicle was blocked by a double-parked car, forcing him to rely on ride-hailing services at his own expense and igniting widespread discussion online about inconsiderate parking practices.

The incident, shared on social media platform Threads, highlighted the disruption caused when a vehicle is left obstructing others without any means of contacting its owner.

The driver, identified as Nabil, said the situation began around midday and persisted late into the evening, leaving him unable to leave for work.

“Just wondering if the owner of this car has passed away? Because from 12.30pm until 11pm, the car hasn’t moved at all.

“I had to take Grab to and from work and it cost me RM53,” The Sun reported him saying.

The problem was compounded by the condition of the obstructing vehicle, which had not been left in neutral gear, making it impossible to move even after attempts to release the handbrake.

His experience quickly drew a flurry of reactions online, ranging from humour to frustration. Some users joked about retaliatory measures, while others criticised the lack of consideration shown by the vehicle owner.

Several commenters suggested that he should have contacted local authorities such as Kuala Lumpur City Hall to arrange for the car to be towed.

In a later update, Nabil confirmed that the situation was eventually resolved after another affected driver intervened and contacted the police.

“Thank you to those who gave tips to call the police and tow the car if this happens again, because before this I didn’t know at all.

“I honked for a solid 10 minutes during the incident and also left a note; that was the only thing I could think of at the time. I’m really entertained reading all your comments. Hopefully the person learned a lesson.”

The episode has renewed calls for stricter enforcement and greater public awareness to address the persistent issue of double parking in urban areas. - May 2, 2026
