TWO former female clinic workers have pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur to a charge of jointly causing the death of a woman during an alleged abortion procedure at a clinic in the Bukit Bintang area.
The accused, Philomena Mathias, 83, and Rusbur Kaur Partab Singh, 73, are alleged to have been involved in causing the death of a 45-year-old woman, with prosecutors contending that the fatal outcome arose from acts carried out with intent to induce a miscarriage.
The incident is said to have occurred at a clinic on Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang at about 5.30pm on 22 October 2024.
The charge is brought under Section 314 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.
Both accused entered pleas of not guilty after the charge was read out before Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan.
The court allowed each accused to be released on bail of RM3,000 with one surety, and fixed 29 June for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Syafika Azwa Fikri conducted the prosecution, while the accused were represented by lawyer George Loh.
The case is set to proceed to pre-trial management as investigations and court processes continue, with further developments expected at the next mention date. - May 12, 2026
