PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Secretary-General Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim's call for the education minister to resign over the issue of recognising the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) was his personal stand.

The Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) said that recognising the UEC is not a new thing because the previous government had also recognised the certificate with certain conditions, including having an SPM, passing Malay Language and History.

According to her, the matter had also been accepted by other parties before and should not be made an issue.

"That's his (Hassan Karim) personal view. Actually, the UEC issue is not new. The previous government had recognised it, and it was very clear that there had to be SPM, History and Malay Language.

"So, it's not a new issue. Other parties also recognised it, so there is no issue. That is his personal view,” she said.

Earlier, Pasir Gudang Member of Parliament Hassan Abdul Karim insisted that Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek should resign for failing to oppose the Cabinet decision regarding the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

He said both ministers should defend the national education policy and all aspects related to it, including admission channels to public higher education institutions (IPTA). – May 16, 2026
