A POST-MORTEM examination has confirmed that pressure to the neck contributed to the death of a seven-month-old baby boy who died while sleeping in a cradle at a babysitter’s house in Bandar Sri Sendayan, raising further scrutiny over unregistered childcare arrangements in Malaysia.
Azahar Abdul Rahim, the Seremban district police chief, said the findings emerged following a five-hour forensic examination conducted at the Forensic Medical Unit of Hospital Rembau.
“The post-mortem conducted by Dr Akma Nurain Fairuz Mahamad Arif from 11am until 4pm yesterday at Hospital Rembau confirmed that there was pressure on the deceased’s neck.
“We are still awaiting the results of further tests,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Police have since remanded a 38-year-old female babysitter for six days until May 25 to assist investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Authorities also revealed that the babysitter was not registered with the Welfare Department and had allegedly been providing childcare services privately for payment.
According to investigators, the infant had been under the woman’s care since December 2025.
Earlier reports stated that police received information regarding the incident at approximately 10pm on Tuesday after the baby’s mother lodged a report saying she had received a phone call from the babysitter informing her that the child was unconscious.
Initial investigations found that at the time of the incident, the babysitter had allegedly placed the infant to sleep in a cradle while giving the baby a silicone pacifier.
Police said investigations remain ongoing pending further forensic and laboratory test results. - May 21, 2026
