THE Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) expects the average daily traffic on main highways and connecting routes to reach up to 3.3 million vehicles at the peak in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration on 27 May.
The increase in traffic is expected to occur in stages, starting from today to 7 June 2026, following the overlap of the festive season with public and long school holidays.
LLM Director-General, Ir. Mohd Hadzmir Yusoff said that among the main highways expected to receive the highest amount of traffic are those under the PLUS Group, with an estimated 2.2 million vehicles per day.
In addition, the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) is expected to record 209,000 vehicles, followed by the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1) with 106,000 vehicles and the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 (LPT2) with 50,000 vehicles.
“For the West Coast Expressway (WCE), the total traffic is estimated to reach 151,000 vehicles during the period.
“Meanwhile, for the highways connecting to the main highways, the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) is expected to receive 283,000 vehicles per day, followed by the Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) with 125,000 vehicles and the Kajang-Seremban Expressway (LEKAS) with 137,000 vehicles,” he said in a statement today.
He added that to ensure safer and smoother travel for users during the festive season, the LLM has instructed all highway concessionaires to implement several proactive measures.
Among these measures are no lane closures except for emergency work starting from May 23 to June 2, as well as the activation of 34 Smart Lane locations, including on PLUS Group highways.
“The LLM is also ensuring that the toll collection system is at an optimal level, including the implementation of layered collection at critical toll plazas, as well as inspections of highway operations and facilities at R&R areas and Side Stops,” he said.
Mohd Hadzmir added that 65 portable toilets were also provided in addition to adequate water supply, additional parking and personnel, including RELA members at the R&R areas.
In the meantime, highway users are advised to plan their journeys using the TuJu and Travel Time Advisory (TTA) applications in addition to ensuring that their vehicles are in good condition before starting the journey.
Users are also asked to ensure that their Touch ‘n Go card, e-wallet and debit card balances are sufficient and to comply with instructions during Smart Lane activation, said Mohd Hadzmir.
Motorcyclists are reminded to be more careful and use the 571 motorcycle shelter locations provided in the event of bad weather.
