A TEENAGER who went missing while swimming with friends at Bagan Lalang Beach in Tanjong Sepat was found dead on Sunday evening after an extensive search and rescue operation involving multiple emergency response units.

The victim, identified as 17-year-old Mohd Akhil Zamani Sanusi, was recovered by rescue personnel at approximately 6.50pm in waters around 300 metres from the beach where he was last seen.

Authorities launched a search operation shortly after receiving reports that the teenager had disappeared while swimming earlier in the day. The operation involved several Water Rescue Team units from multiple fire and rescue stations, supported by boats deployed across the search area.

Rescuers combed the coastal waters for several hours before locating the victim's body offshore.

Medical personnel from the Ministry of Health Malaysia confirmed the victim's death at the scene following his recovery from the water.

The body was subsequently handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police for further investigation and the completion of standard procedures.

Preliminary information indicated that the teenager had been swimming with friends before he was believed to have encountered difficulties in the water and disappeared beneath the surface.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers associated with coastal recreational activities, particularly during periods of strong currents and changing sea conditions, as authorities continue to urge beachgoers to exercise caution when entering open waters. - June 1, 2026
