KUALA LUMPUR – Prasarana Malaysia Bhd today confirmed that its president and group CEO, Muhammad Nizam Alias, has been asked to go on leave, pending investigations into claims of misconduct and insubordination, effective November 27 last year.

This confirms The Vibes’ report on December 8.

Nizam has been suspended of all his duties, said Prasarana chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

“This is the normal course of action in such cases.”

After receiving several complaints, a show-cause letter was sent to Nizam, and he was given a week to answer the claims.

The answers have been received, said Tajuddin, and “to be fair to him, and to follow the governance and internal procedures, the board decided to set up a three-man special committee to study the claims and the answers”.

“It has just been set up, and the committee will look into this.”

He criticised Nizam for purportedly airing dirty linen by going to the media.

“I suspect he has gone too far, to play the game in the media, to attack Prasarana and attack me. To me, this is not very professional. This is not good.”

However, he did not go further into the allegations and misconduct.

“All I can say for now is, these are internal matters, and it’s not good for me to share them in public. Give him the chance to reply, and give us a chance to study the reply he is going to give against the allegations.

“Now is not the right time because it can be prejudicial to him or us.”

He added that Prasarana has not filed police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission reports against Nizam, as “this is an internal human resource matter”. – The Vibes, January 4, 2021
