KUALA LUMPUR – The Works Ministry has passed the buck to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) on the jurisdiction of a road where a 75-year-old motorcyclist died after hitting a pothole yesterday.

Following online criticism of the authorities’ failure to maintain road conditions, the ministry tweeted “The road in question is under DBKL”, and tagged @ITIS_TRAFIK.

The Vibes is trying to reach DBKL for comments.

Ho Yan Yee died after hitting a pothole in Jalan Tengah, near Mid Valley Megamall.

The accident led to netizens bombarding the Public Works Department’s Twitter account, @JKRMalaysia, calling for an apology, while questioning its efficiency in dealing with matters related to road conditions.

The issue of potholes made the headlines after Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin suffered injuries to the face after falling while cycling in Jalan Kg Seri Cheeding, Banting, a week ago.

He landed in a ditch after his bicycle hit a pothole.

His accident and subsequent tweet saw a swift response and apology from the Kuala Langat Public Works Department, with the pothole in question being filled up a day later.

This did not sit well with Malaysians, who took to social media to criticise the department over its double standards. – The Vibes, January 4, 2021
