THE Prime Minister today dismissed talk that Bersatu could rejoin Pakatan Harapan.
“We do not believe in political relationships where parties divorce and remarry.
"For me, a political marriage where you divorce and remarry is not our way," said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to reports in the New Straits Times, the PH chairman said he had not heard the rumours, adding that the coalition's approach was based on consultation and cooperation rather than political manoeuvring.
The prime minister was speaking at a press conference at the end of his three-day official visit to Japan.
Anwar was responding to claims that Bersatu could seek to join PH following the breakdown of its political cooperation with Pas.
“The unity government at the federal level is stable and continues to enjoy the support of its component parties despite occasional differences at the state level.
"The leadership within the cabinet is clear that the unity government at the federal level must remain strong," he said.
Anwar stressed that he would not be involved in any move that could be perceived as betraying existing allies within the coalition.
He said current cooperation agreements must be respected to preserve political stability.
"I do not want to be involved in any move that involves PH betraying our friends," he said, adding that state-level issues should be addressed by state leaders.
Earlier this week, Pas ended its political cooperation with Bersatu after months of strained relations, although both parties said they would remain within Perikatan Nasional.
Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang subsequently said the party would explore new forms of political understanding and electoral cooperation ahead of upcoming state elections and the 16th General Election. – June 10, 2026
