UMNO Supreme Council member, Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi, hinted that he will make an important announcement on June 27 following the latest developments in Johor Umno.
He said that the list of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates for the 2026 Johor State Election (PRN), which is expected to be announced today, shows something that is “not right” for the state Umno.
“Today, Johor BN will announce the list of candidates who will contest in the 2026 Johor PRN.
“Looking at the list of candidates, there are things that are not right for Johor Umno. Therefore, I will make an important announcement on June 27, 2026,” he said in a statement on Facebook.
Puad, who is also the incumbent of the Rengit State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat, said that the latest developments in Johor Umno are very worrying for him.
According to him, the decision to make the announcement was made after taking into account the party's position and the direction of the struggle, which he said cannot be left alone.
“I will not look back even though I am just a small player,” he said.
Six days ago, Puad announced that he would not defend the Rengit DUN seat due to his age.
At that time, he stressed that the time had come for trained and educated young people to be allowed to be presented as candidates.
However, Puad claimed that his views were not heeded.
“I stress that qualified and educated young people should definitely be given the opportunity. But they were not heeded.
“I have shown political courage to continue the struggle,” he said.
The statement is expected to spark attention ahead of the official announcement of the Johor BN candidates, especially among the state Umno grassroots who are preparing for the 2026 Johor state election. – June 24, 2026
