THE Unity Government in Penang is currently intact and strong despite political unrest in several other states, including Melaka.
Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow said, so far, the relationship between the parties in the Unity Government in Penang has been running smoothly without any issues affecting the administration of the state.
"So far, there are no issues related to cooperation. Everything remains as usual (status quo) and no party has initiated any new decisions regarding the direction of the government," he said.
He was commenting on the stance of Melaka DAP which announced to withdraw from the state government immediately after the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (DUN) approved an amendment to the State Constitution to allow the appointment of State Assemblymen (ADUN).
Commenting on the results of the Johor State Election (PRN), Chow, who is also the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Penang chairman, said the party practices an open attitude in accepting any decision of the people.
"We welcome all the views presented because it is advice that can help us improve all weaknesses, strengthen us and reorganise our strategies going forward.
"At the same time, we will also examine all factors that contributed to the results of the Johor state election," he said, adding that the most important thing at the moment is to ensure that voters' confidence in PH's policies and struggles continues to be strengthened.
Chow also admitted that social media now plays a big role in shaping the public's thinking and perception of the government and political parties in this country.
"Social media can not only influence thinking, but also change perceptions, shape expectations and create distrust. All of this affects various aspects of life including politics," he said. – July 15, 2026
