PAKATAN Harapan (PH) candidates must intensify grassroots campaigning to win over undecided voters rather than place any confidence in political forecasts as the Negeri Sembilan state election enters its final stretch, Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.
Responding to seat projections by former Bangi Member of Parliament Dr Ong Kian Ming, the PH Communications Director said election forecasts should motivate candidates to work harder before polling takes place on Saturday.
“The ultimate victory of any candidate or political party will be determined by the voters who turn out to cast their ballots, not surveys or political predictions.
“We regard comments by individuals such as Dr Ong as a challenge to ourselves. Our candidates must continue engaging directly with voters, especially those who remain undecided, to earn their confidence and support,” he said during a community tea session at Felda Bukit Rokan Barat.
Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister and PKR Information Chief, recalled his own experience in the 14th General Election, noting that several pre-election surveys had predicted his defeat in the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency before he ultimately emerged victorious.
He said feedback gathered throughout the campaign indicated encouraging support for PH, particularly among undecided voters, with many expressing appreciation for state government initiatives, including incentives for entrepreneurs, financial assistance for newly married couples, laptop aid for students and the coalition's proposed allowance for Datuk-Datuk Lembaga Adat.
As campaigning enters its final days, Fahmi also warned voters to expect an increase in fake news, manipulated videos and defamatory content circulating on social media platforms, particularly WhatsApp.
He urged the public to verify information through established news organisations and official channels before believing or sharing it, citing the recent circulation of an old video of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from his time as Opposition Leader that was presented out of context to misrepresent his views on the armed forces.
“As polling day approaches, irresponsible parties are likely to circulate selectively edited statements and recycled videos to confuse voters and create unnecessary suspicion.
“If a report does not appear in established mainstream media outlets or official channels, the public should exercise caution before believing it or forwarding it,” he said. - July 29, 2026
