MALAYSIANS will see higher retail prices for unsubsidised petrol and diesel from 30 July to 5 August 2026, with RON97, RON95 and diesel prices each rising by 20 sen per litre amid continued volatility in global oil markets.
The price of RON97 will increase to RM4.40 per litre from RM4.20, while unsubsidised RON95 will rise to RM3.82 per litre from RM3.62. Diesel without subsidies will increase to RM4.62 per litre from RM4.42.
Eligible recipients will continue to receive subsidised RON95 at RM1.99 per litre through BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95), while subsidised diesel remains available at RM2.10 per litre under BUDI MADANI Diesel and RM2.05 per litre through the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS).
The government said national fuel supplies remain sufficient and that targeted subsidy mechanisms through BUDI95, BUDI Diesel, SKDS and the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS) will continue.
Despite the increase in unsubsidised fuel prices, the government said subsidised fuel assistance would continue to protect eligible Malaysians from global price fluctuations.
Based on the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) formula, the Ministry of Finance announced that the new prices reflect movements in global petroleum prices during the previous week. The increase comes as international crude oil prices continue to be affected by the prolonged conflict between the United States and Iran, which has pushed Brent crude oil prices to a six-week high of US$96 per barrel.
Concerns over potential disruptions to major energy routes, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, have further intensified market uncertainty over global petroleum supplies.
The Ministry of Finance said fuel markets were expected to remain unstable as long as geopolitical tensions continued without a clear resolution, adding, declining emergency petroleum reserves among several major economies following the outbreak of the West Asia conflict on 28 February 2026 could create additional pressure on prices if countries begin replenishing their strategic stocks. - July 29, 2026
