PENAMPANG – Sabah’s oldest party, Parti Bersatu Sabah has made major leadership changes with younger leaders taking on key positions.

Former secretary-general Datuk Jahid Jahim is now PBS’ deputy president (Muslim-Bumiputera quota) and information chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai is now secretary-general while former assistant secretary-general Datuk Julita Majungki is made information chief.

Tandek assemblyman Hendrus Anding was named assistant secretary-general and Telupid assemblyman Jonnybone Kurum is assistant information chief.

Supreme Council member Mursid Mohd Rais was promoted to vice-president, while Dr Samuil Mopun was made Supreme Council member.

“The appointment of Jahid as the party’s number two, will not only strengthen the Muslim arm of the party, but will also ensure the continued support of existing Bumiputera Muslim members.

“This is also to prove that we in PBS have been listening to the demands of supporters for a renewal of party leadership,” said PBS president Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili today.

PBS was formed in 1985 and has promoted itself as a multi-racial party.

The party is known for upholding state rights, continuously raising immigrant issues in Sabah and promoting the establishment of an anti-party hopping law.

The party had previously campaigned under the Barisan Nasional banner until the coalition’s defeat in 2018. – The Vibes, January 5, 2021
