Malaysia and Cambodia are set to further strengthen their longstanding partnership as both nations prepare to commemorate seven decades of diplomatic ties in 2027- August 4, 2026

MALAYSIA and Cambodia have pledged to deepen their strategic partnership following a courtesy visit by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn, who arrived in Malaysia for a two-day official visit.

The visit comes ahead of the Third Meeting of the Malaysia-Cambodia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), scheduled for Aug 4, and marks an important step towards preparations for the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027.

The engagement highlights the close friendship and enduring cooperation between Kuala Lumpur and Phnom Penh, with both sides committed to expanding collaboration across areas of shared interest.

Key areas of discussion include trade and investment, the digital economy, artificial intelligence (AI), the halal sector, food security and human capital development, alongside efforts to strengthen cooperation against cross-border crime.

Malaysia and Cambodia, as members of ASEAN, also reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintaining regional peace, enhancing unity among member states and advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 towards a more prosperous and resilient region.

Both countries expressed optimism that closer bilateral cooperation would unlock new opportunities for economic growth and strategic collaboration while delivering greater benefits to their respective peoples. - August 4, 2026
