Ismail Sabri expected to undergo pacemaker procedure as charge hearing postponed
Lawyer says it would not be practical for the prosecution to proceed with the charge reading at the hospital due to his medical condition - August 7, 2026

FORMER Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to undergo a pacemaker implantation procedure at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Friday, following a deterioration in his health condition.

His lawyer, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, said the medical development made it impractical for the prosecution to read the charge against the Bera Member of Parliament at IJN.

He said the urgent treatment was arranged after Ismail Sabri experienced health complications on Thursday.

"Yesterday, he was at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters from 9 am until 6 pm.

"During the process, his health condition deteriorated before he was taken to IJN for immediate treatment," he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex.

The proceedings against Ismail Sabri under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (MACC Act) at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court have since been postponed to Aug 27.

Amer Hamzah said Ismail Sabri had a history of health issues.

"He had a fall two weeks ago and was admitted to Pantai Hospital.

"He was also scheduled for a follow-up medical examination next Monday," he said. - August 7, 2026
