PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang says Bersatu is no longer a member of Perikatan Nasional (PN) after the party announced its intention to form a new political coalition.
He said Bersatu's membership had automatically lapsed under the provisions of PN's constitution, which he said does not allow a member party to join or establish another political alliance.
"Bersatu has announced its intention to form another coalition, and as a result, the party’s membership in PN has automatically ceased," he told reporters after delivering his weekly ‘Kuliah duha” (“Duha lecture”) at Masjid Rusila on Friday.
Last month, Bersatu president and Pagoh MP Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the party would establish a new and stronger political coalition with several parties following the Negeri Sembilan state election.
Muhyiddin said the proposed alliance would include parties under the Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat (IPR) umbrella, including Putra and Parti Bersepakat Hak Rakyat Malaysia (URIMAI).
Abdul Hadi, who is also the Marang MP, said PN did not need to issue any formal notification to Bersatu regarding the termination of its membership because the party had effectively withdrawn itself through its own declaration.
"In my view, PN does not need to issue an official letter regarding the termination... our constitution is clear that when someone joins another party or coalition, they automatically cease to be a member," he said. - August 7, 2026
