MAlAYSIA Aviation Group (MAG) has confirmed that all Malaysia Airlines pilots have tested negative for drugs after undergoing mandatory drug screening.
All of them have completed the tests as of August 15.
MAG Group President and Chief Executive Officer, Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, said the company has completed the mandatory drug screening of Malaysia Airlines pilots, meeting the previously announced August 15 timeline.
He said the process is part of measures to strengthen safety and fitness for duty across MAG operations.
“The completion of the first phase is a significant milestone in steps set by the group, but efforts will continue.
“Safety remains at the core of every decision we make and we will continue to implement the necessary measures to strengthen protection, maintain operational standards and ensure the confidence of passengers and stakeholders,” he said in a statement today.
Following that, MAG will enter the next phase by conducting screening of 2,840 Malaysia Airlines cabin crew starting August 18 in stages with the target of completion on September 3.
Screening will also be conducted on pilots and cabin crew of the airline, Firefly.
As of August 15, more than half of Firefly’s 158 pilots and 163 cabin crew have undergone screening with all results received so far showing negative.
The statement said Firefly is expected to complete the screening of its remaining pilots and cabin crew by August 25, ahead of the deadline 5 September as set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.
“As part of MAG’s ongoing efforts to prevent and eliminate substance abuse within the organisation, the group will continue its ongoing random testing programme.
“The enhanced measures complement MAG’s existing fitness for duty framework which includes pre-employment screening, medical examinations, periodic training, regular alcohol and drug testing in addition to mandatory pre-flight compliance checks and crew fitness assessments,” he said.
The statement made it clear that MAG remains committed to maintaining strict safety and professionalism standards across its entire airline and strengthening preventive measures to protect the well-being of employees, passengers and operations. – August 17, 2026
