POLICE have opened an investigation into an alleged incident involving the rough treatment of a two-year-old girl by a childcare worker at a nursery in Mentakab after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

Temerloh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasyim Bahron said police detected a social media post concerning the incident yesterday before receiving a report from the girl’s 29-year-old mother at about 6pm.

“The victim’s mother informed police that her two-year-old daughter had been sent to the childcare centre.

“The complainant alleged that her daughter had been treated roughly by a caregiver at the nursery,” he said.

Mohd Nasyim said an investigation paper had been opened to establish what actually happened and determine further action against those involved.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.

If convicted, an offender faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment or a maximum fine of RM50,000, or both. - September 6, 2026
