FORMER Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and two former senior executives have been remanded for two days to assist a police investigation into alleged fraud involving the institution’s hibah payments.
The remand order was issued by Sessions Court Judge Mohamad Afiq Zuber, who acted as a magistrate, following an application by police.
Besides Abdul Azeez, the two others remanded are a former Tabung Haji chief executive officer and a former chief financial officer.
The trio are being investigated for alleged cheating linked to the payment of Tabung Haji hibah.
It was earlier reported that Abdul Azeez was brought before the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur today for a remand hearing over a police investigation linked to issues raised in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the pilgrim fund.
His lawyer, Datuk Abu Bakar Isa Ramat, said Abdul Azeez, 60, was arrested by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) in Bukit Aman yesterday afternoon before being taken to Dang Wangi police station.
“The police will apply for a remand order under Section 420 of the Penal Code,” he told reporters at the lobby of the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex.
The Baling MP was understood to have been brought into the court through an internal route, avoiding the media personnel who had been waiting outside since 7am.
His son, Mohamed Khairul Azman, and several UMNO leaders were also seen at the court complex.
The arrest is linked to investigations into issues raised in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report concerning Tabung Haji.
Abdul Azeez was previously remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for seven days from Aug 26 to assist investigations arising from the RCI findings.
The RCI report, which was made public on July 29, detailed weaknesses in the management and operations of Tabung Haji between 2014 and 2020.
Abdul Azeez served as Tabung Haji chairman from 2014 to 2018.
The latest police investigation comes after the MACC opened investigation papers into several issues highlighted in the RCI report. - September 9, 2026
