PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim returned from China today and went straight to his family home in Bukit Mertajam to pay his final respects to his elder brother, Idrus Ibrahim, who died on Thursday.
Anwar arrived at about 11.05am with his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, shortly after returning from his working visit to China.
He joined family members and relatives at the residence to pay his respects to Idrus, 83, who died in his sleep at about 6.10pm on Thursday.
Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang Tun Ramli Ngah Talib and his wife, Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, arrived about 11.15am to pay their final respects.
Also present were Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, Penang Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Sukki Othman and Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid.
Hundreds of residents, relatives and friends also gathered at the family home to pay their respects to Idrus, who was described as friendly and approachable.
Idrus, born on Nov 25, 1943, died at his residence from old age, leaving behind his widow, Faridah Hanim Mohd Ghouse, 80, four children and 10 grandchildren.
His funeral will be held after Friday prayers at the Cherok Tokun Bawah Muslim Cemetery. - September 25, 2026
