Cops bust drug trafficking syndicate in Bayan Lepas budget hotels

BALIK PULAU – Police have foiled a drug trafficking syndicate operating in budget hotels with the arrest of nine individuals and seizure of drugs worth RM44,472, following raids in Bayan Lepas and Teluk Kumbar on Tuesday.

Barat Daya district police chief A. Anbalagan said in the first raid at 11am in a budget hotel in Bayan Lepas here, the police nabbed four individuals including a husband and wife, aged 17 to 34, and seized 133.71g of heroin and 30.56g of syabu.

“In the second raid, four hours later at the same location, we arrested a man and two women, aged 19 to 23, and seized 50.12g of syabu.

“The police later raided a hut in Jalan Sg Batu, Teluk Kumbar here, where 20 Erimin 5 pills and 257.25g syabu were seized from two men, aged 37 and 38,” he said when contacted here, today.

Anbalagan said initial investigation found the syndicate had been using budget hotels around Bayan Lepas for drug trafficking activities for the last three months and all suspects tested positive for drugs.

He added that six of the suspects were unemployed and all have previous criminal and drugs records.

The suspects are on seven-day remand and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – Bernama, January 8, 2021
