KUALA LUMPUR – Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed today confirmed that he is positive for Covid-19 after a test was done in Kota Baru yesterday.

He has been admitted to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital.

In a statement issued by his office today, Mustapa, who is  70 years old,  said an initial test taken on January 1 had shown him to be negative for the coronavirus.

The Jeli MP, who had taken the Covid-19 test shortly after landing at Kota Baru from here yesterday morning, is presently under observation and reportedly under stable condition at the hospital.

He also apologised for the inconvenience caused due to the matter and requested that all parties pray for everyone's well-being.

Mustapa had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on January 8 to update the king on the 12th Malaysia Plan and accomplishments of the National Economic Action Council.

When contacted, Istana Negara confirmed that Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has since tested negative for the virus.

Mustapa is the second cabinet minister to be infected by Covid-19 after Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Zulkifli Mohamad al-Bakri tested positive in October last year.

It is understood that Zulkifli had participated in campaigning in Sabah during the state election in September last year. He subsequently made a full recovery. – The Vibes, January 10, 2021
