KOTA KINABALU – Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must immediately form a Pakatan Harapan Plus shadow cabinet, said Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, in anticipation of a political shift in the country after the emergency order is lifted.
The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation president, in a statement today, said the day will come when PH Plus takes over the country, given the fragile state of the Perikatan Nasional administration at present.
“PH Plus must be ready to shoulder the responsibility of restoring our economy when Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s adventurism and misgovernance cross the line beyond what the Malaysian public and sober parliamentarians in government can tolerate.
“That day will surely come. We just don't know how soon. But when it comes, PH Plus must be ready.”
He said the alliance has already wasted 10 months by not having an alternative cabinet after the Sheraton Move in February last year.
There are 40 former ministers and deputy ministers in the opposition bloc who can offer alternative policies on the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and restoration of the economy, he said.
“Please have a meeting next Wednesday on the matter, over Zoom. It's time we stop our repeated attacks on the ‘backdoor government’.”
The Tuaran MP said lawmakers from Umno – Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz and Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah – and other “old friends in Barisan Nasional” who do not have ongoing court cases should join PH Plus.
“We have a duty to offer workable and broad-based policies for millions of suffering Malaysians when the PM damages their livelihoods just to save his job.
“I sincerely plead with Anwar and my wise friends in BN to work out alternative policies to save the economy from Muhyiddin’s emergency.”
He said the emergency proclamation is an irresponsible and desperate act by Muhyiddin, as it only serves to shut down Parliament and prevent elections.
Millions of jobs and households are at risk if the emergency lasts for eight months.
